MCCBCHS AGM

The MCCBCHS held its AGM on the 27th September. The meeting was well-attended and there were representatives from the various State branches.

Here are some important updates.

  1. With the passing away of Ven. Dhammananda, who till his death was President of the MCCBCHS, the Buddhists nominated Dato Chee Peck Kiat to be President. He is no stranger to the MCCBCHS. He served in the EXCO some years back. He is level-headed and listens to all points of view before making a decision.
  2. The AGM voted in favour of welcoming the Taoists into the membership. This required constitutional changes subject to approval by the Registrar of Society. The new name of the organisation is MCCBCHST. So it still continues to be a mouthful!
  3. 2 resolutions were passed by the delegates at the AGM.
    1. The MCCBCHST calls on the government to review the judiciary systems in the country to ensure that non-Muslims are not subject to Syariah courts, or, get caught in Islamic law in the case of reconversion or mixed marriages.
    2. The MCCBCHST calls on the government and State authorities to check the handing over of designated burial ground land for non-Muslims to private companies to run a cemetery business. None of the newspapers, published the resolutions passed by the AGM.
  4. Bishop Dr. Paul Tan, Chairman of the CFM, continues as a Vice-President of the MCCBCHST for another year.
  5. The AGM agreed to the employment of a full-time Executive Secretary and the setting-up of a humble secretariat at Cardijn House, Bukit Nanas, K.L.

The MCCBCHST is looking for a suitable candidate. If you have good names, let us know. Each religions group in the MCCBCHST shall contribute RM20,000 per year to sustain the secretariat.
