Heed King’s call, says Dompok
The Malaysian Council of Churches has been reminded to heed the King’s calls to promote unity among its followers in the country. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Bernard Dompok said the council played an important part in bringing people together.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin during his speech to mark Maulidur Rasul celebrations last month urged for more interaction between people of various ethnic groups and races for the purpose of getting to know each other. He said the concept behind knowing each other was to create unity and harmony in living together in a community.’
Dompok added that the council, formed about 60 years ago comprising churches from different Christian denominations, was mainly established to forge close relationship among the Christian community. He was addressing hundreds of Church
representatives at the council's 60th anniversary held at Pulai Spring Resort recently.
Dompok reiterated that Christianity was part of the country’s heritage as it was first rooted in the country hundreds of years ago when foreign Christian missionaries came. With regards to the present problems faced by the Christians in the country, Dompok said: “Man cannot run away from problems but has to see them as challenges because from these challenges, comes solutions to the problems”.
