Golf Fellowship nets RM35,000 for CCM’s building fund

A 1 Vision CCM Golf Fellowship 2010 organised by the Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) was held recently to raise funds for CCM’s new building.

The charity event at Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam also provided an opportunity for the 120 participants to foster friendship with their fellow golf enthusiasts.

Also present were guest-of-honour Tan Sri Leo Moggie, CCM president Rev. Dr Thomas Philips and CCM general secretary Rev. Dr Hermen Shastri.

Top winners: Moggie (second from right) and Shastri (left) with the top three winners of the ‘1 Vision CCM Golf Fellowship 2010. Second-place winner Hassan Abdul Manaf (second from left), third-place winner Wong Ah Chiew (centre) and first-place winner Ridzuan Matt.

Organising chairman Dr Eddie Chiew said all proceeds from the event would be channelled to the CCM building fund.

“We’re raising funds to rebuild a ecumenical centre to replace CCM’s old building.

“The CCM is the umbrella body for the major Christian denominations in Malaysia,” he said.

According to Dr Chiew, about RM35,000 was raised from the golf fellowship through participation fees, souvenir magazine advertisements and sponsorships.

“The event offered prizes for the top 40 golfers based on their scores, as well as several lucky draw winners,” he said.

“We try to give something to everybody who participates in recognition of their efforts.”

CCM building fund coordinator Albert Chong said the new building was not meant for Christians only, as it would also be a place where people of different faiths could meet.

Located in Jalan Universiti, Petaling Jaya, CCM’s new premises will have additional office and functional space, and offer community-based facilities like hostel/guest rooms, meeting rooms and library and resource centre.

The construction work is planned for early April.

“Because of the building’s location opposite University Malaya Medical Centre, our guest rooms are ideal for families of the hospital’s patients,” said Chong.

“The building project costs RM8.2mil, and we’ve received about one-third that amount so far.

“CCM is planning to have a dinner as another fund-raising activity in the third quarter of this year,” he said.

“However, we still welcome direct contributions or sponsorship of facilities,” he added.

Those who would like to contribute can send a cheque or bank draft (payable to Council of Churches of Malaysia — Building Fund) to CCM at 26 Jalan Universiti, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, while those who would like to bank in the money can send it to the CCM’s Standard Chartered Bank account number 7941 5696 3343.
