CCM Condemns Circulation of Posters with Intent to IntimidateThe Council of Churches of Malaysia wholly and unreservedly condemns the circulation of posters with the intent to intimidate and threaten all lawyers representing Lina Joy in her case which is currently before the Federal Court. The said posters are being circulated in both print and electronic form. We firmly hold that it is the duty of all lawyers, by virtue of their profession, to represent the interest of their clients without fear or favor. The lawyers representing Lina Joy, and the representatives holding Watching Brief in favour of the case, are acting in the highest tradition of their profession. This shameful threat directed to lawyers who take up a certain position in Court, cannot be accepted in a democratic country and goes against the fundamentals of our justice system. The Council calls on the authorities to identify, locate and bring the parties responsible for the dissemination of such material to account immediately. Our society should show zero tolerance for anyone who seeks to undermine our judicial system and the protection of the officers of the courts for those whose job is to represent cases justly in the Malaysian courts.
