Our Prayers of Solidarity with the People and Country of MyanmarThank you for your solidarity and prayer Dear Co-workers in Christ, On behalf of the Myanmar Council of Churches and the Churches in Myanmar I would like to express our deep appreciation of your concern, solidarity and prayers for our country and people. I have shared your solidarity and message to all our key church leaders. In Myanmar, September 28 to October 4 is designated as week of Prayer for peace and reconciliation, jointly sponsored by The Catholic Bishop Conference of Myanmar and the Myanmar Council of Churches since 2002, observed by many churches and Regional Council of Churches in the whole country. Unfortunately we have to cancel the combined opening worship of this program scheduled on 28th September due to the situation. However, many Local Churches are observing this program and praying especially for our country. The situation right now is not yet stable and curfew was imposed in Yangon and Mandalay the two biggest cities in Myanmar. We request you especially to continue to pray for our country and people for the healing of our nation, justice, reconciliation and peace by the Power of God. In Him, 30 September 2007
Rev. Mar Gay Gui, Re: Our Prayers of Solidarity for Peaceful Transition to change in Myanmar Dear Rev. Mar, It is with great concern that we follow the recent developments in your country, where thousands are coming out onto the streets to raise their voices for freedom and change. It is moving to see how religious people especially Buddhist monks and nuns, are at the forefront in the struggle. We know that your Council and many church leaders have joined the forces for democratic change to oppose the long dictatorship of the military junta. As you face uncertain times, our fervent prayers for God's strength and wishes of solidarity go out to the Christians and to all the people of Myanmar. We pray that as you face this crisis moment in the history of your country, it will result in the dawn of new era of democracy and peace in Myanmar. Let us trust in the power of God to transform any evil situation by the power of truth, justice and love, manifested in lives of courageous men and women standing against insolent might. Yours in Christ, 25 September 2007 |
